#32. Two Times a Columbine

June 7th, 2014: Oil on Board, 6" x 6".  I've heard that there are no hummingbirds in Europe, a shame, I know, but they do have columbines.  Because there are no hummingbirds, the European columbine never decided to evolve elongated, conical spikes to woo the tiny birds like the American version and they look entirely different.  I find things like this fascinating, you may or may not.  Two times because I struggled with the not quite open flower and had to paint it twice, but the leaves came together easily and are my favorite part.
